When I was a novice Photoshop user, I probably tried to use everything except the patch tool. I had no idea what it was or how to use it. However, once I took the time to learn it became an extremely valuable asset to me. I use it in almost every image that I modify now.
Let’s use a very simple image in this patch tool tutorial so that we can get the hang of the basics. Once you understand how to use the tool, you will only get better with it from practice.
Removing a Tattoo Using the Patch Tool
This is a photo of a very sunburned back with a tattoo. I am going to show you how to remove a tattoo in Photoshop using the patch tool.
Step 1- Grab your patch tool from the toolbar on the left.
Step 2- Use the patch tool to draw around the tattoo, staying relatively close to the edges.
Step 3- Click and drag your selected to the closest resembling area outside of the perimeter of the area that you have selected. You want to make sure that the background color of the area you have selected is very similar to the area that you drag it to.
Step 4- Now deselect the area, and voila!
Now, we just need to get rid of that horrific sunburn! I hope that this tutorial was informative for you and if you have any questions, please feel free to comment. I will do my very best answer all of your question.
